This app will help you to track your earnings and expenses, add new expense/earnings in a couple of clicks, see detailed visual insights and do all this with multiple currencies around the world.
I’ll keep it short and just highlight the main point of this app. I’ve tried different apps, notes, spreadsheets to track my earnings and expenses for years and it didn’t work out for me well. So I decided to create my own app. After the first prototype and months of testing, I found it useful and decided to share my experience worldwide and spend some more time to build an MVP with multiple accounts that can be used by anyone who is interesting in improving their financial life.
I do travel a lot and it's harder to track how much do I spend on flights, hotels, food, commuting, compared with the income I have. It’s harder when I deal with different currencies, but used to one currency that I get my income in.
I’ve tried writing simple notes, but at the end of the day, you need to make calculations and then monthly calculations. Moreover, you can see only numbers and it looks pretty much chaotic.
Ok, the approach with notes is really primitive. Why do not try spreadsheets? It automates calculations. So I can just organize a table with columns like a name of expenses/earnings, a column with the actual expense and just use SUM function to see the total number. That might work. It worked for some time, but honestly, the main struggle was to do it from a smartphone, since spreadsheets hardly manageable from such small screens. They also don’t have up to date currencies as far as I know if you want to convert your finances into one currency you understand clearly.
What about financial apps? I created accounts in several of them and honestly, it was so overwhelming to start using something like this on a daily basis. They felt heavy with lots of functionality that I don’t really need. The UI and overall experience they have in addition to a financial topic, that is boring by default, seemed like too much for me. I just didn’t want to sign up for this and wanted something really easy to use. Like an app where I can push a couple of buttons and don’t think about it much. I wanted to have the ability to check what’s going on with my finances at the end of the week, month, year or so.
Click to add expense/earning.
Add a sum. A date is predefined by Today's day, but you can choose another one. Currency is pre-defined by the country you’re in.
Choose a tag for your expense/earning from predefined. You can manage it in settings.
See insights visually and split by categories.
Finn is a friendly pug that will help you with your finances while you’ll be using this app. And he’ll will make this financial stuff not so boring.
The main difference is the interface. I do not compare FinnApp with the solutions that are on the market. It’s just different. It doesn’t have lots of advanced functionality, the main goal of the interface I created is to have an ability to log expenses and earnings in a couple of taps (clicks) using a mobile device that is always in our pockets nowadays.
It just will give you much more of understanding on how your finances are doing. You’ll need some time to get used to the habit to add your expenses after you went out of supermarket or cafe. But in the long run, it gives you so much data about your lifestyle, like for instance: where do you spend much, where less, where it’s obvious that you splurge. You can measure your finances so and manage them. At the end of the day, it’s easier to set financial goals for coming months and years if you know how much you spend, on what, and in what period of time.
Yes, it’s free for 2 months and then if you want to continue using it you can enter your credit card details via secured payment form and subscribe monthly for a really symbolic price (I’m still figuring that out).
No. All that you need is to go here, complete an easy signup process within one minute and you’re good to go on any device and browser you are using.
It’s MVP (minimum viable product) now. Meaning, nothing super fancy is there yet. Just a minimum functionality that covers the main use case. However, if people will be interested in using this app I’ll be working on improvements, new features (have some cool stuff in mind), even better UX and so on.
I hope you’ll find it useful or at least try it yourself. You can find the app here.
